Lucas Torreira departed Arsenal on loan in the summer for ACF Fiorentina, and the former Sampdoria midfielder is starting to get back to his best with the Serie A side.
The 25-year-old has made 15 appearances for the Italian club, with Torreira making 13 starts for Vincenzo Italiano’s high-flying side. And this weekend saw the Uruguayan international had one of his best performances to date with the club.
The midfielder assisted and scored in Fiorentina’s 2-2 draw with Sassuolo, with Torreira setting up Dusan Vlahovic to make it 2-1 before rescuing a point for the Tuscan side just past the hour mark.
Indeed, it is the first goal Torreira has scored in some time, with the midfielder only finding the back of the net four times for Arsenal after arriving from Italy in 2018 for a reported fee of £26m.
Despite being a fan favourite at the Emirates, Torreira is likely to leave Arsenal in 2022, with Fiorentina having a clause to permanently sign the midfielder at the end of this season.
And the way things are going, La Viola will activate this option, with Torreira playing a key role in Fiorentina’s goal of qualifying for Europe, which could be a possibility based on their form this season.
Whilst the 25-year-old has no long-term future with Arsenal, fans on social media are buzzing that Torreira is on the board for the season, with the midfielder having a starring role against Sassuolo this afternoon.
