Patrick Reed has become the second player to jump ship from LIV Golf in an attempt to rejoin the PGA Tour.

It seems that the wheels are falling off at LIV Golf. First, nobody of note wants to join the tour in the offseason. Negotiations with Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im fell through, and the biggest name they have added so far is Byeong Hun An.

Second, Brooks Koepka leaves. The five-time major winner has never looked truly happy playing on the Saudi-backed league. The PGA Tour made way for Koepka to re-join, given he accept a series of punishments.

The latest nail in the coffin was Patrick Reed leaving. He’s been a big supporter of LIV, and was even expected to re-sign earlier in the week. But now he’s seeking a PGA Tour return, which is a major blow.

And as LIV players leave the tour, some PGA Tour players are piling on with their opinions of the rival league.

Ludvig Aberg says why he turned down LIV Golf

Ludvig Aberg was twice offered contracts by LIV Golf. He remains one of the fastest rising young superstars in golf, and chose to remain a PGA Tour member.

This week, Aberg is playing at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, one of the many iconic venues on the PGA Tour. The day after the Reed news broke, he spoke to reporters at a press conference.

Naturally, the young Swedish star was asked about Reed and Koepka’s departure from LIV, and he had the following to say:

“I almost missed those guys because I turned pro in ’23, so right as I kind of came up playing PGA Tour, they had already left. Yeah, I do understand certain situations are going to be a little bit different.

“Everyone’s going to view it a little bit differently, and I think everyone’s going to make the best decision for their personal career.

“When it was an option for me, I didn’t like it. It wasn’t anything that I wanted to be a part of, so naturally, for me in my position, that wasn’t going to be the case. And yeah, absolutely, you know, guys are doing it – if you’re doing it the right way and you want to come back, I have no problem.”

That’s been the message from almost every PGA Tour star since Koepka’s return, but Aberg added a bit of shade towards LIV during his statement. He must be smug having turned down LIV given the tour’s recent struggles.

Ludvig Aberg says if he thinks he can catch Scottie Scheffler in 2026

World number one Scottie Scheffler became the undisputed standard-bearer in golf through his dominance in 2025. He’s the man they’re all trying to chase.

Aberg was asked what he can do to catch the American this year, to which he replied, “I think obviously the last couple years Scottie’s been the benchmark in basically virtually every strokes gained category that you kind of look at.

“Yeah, if you play with him, you can sort of see what that looks like firsthand, which has been great for me to see.

“I don’t really, you know, use the terms trying to chase him, trying to, if I can, focus on myself and see improvements in my own game, I think that’s all I can do.

“But yeah, what Scottie’s been doing is quite remarkable. Obviously, since I turned pro he’s been World No. 1, and the way he’s going it looks like he’s going to be that for a while going forward, too.”

When young stars like Aberg aren’t even considering the possibility of catching you, you know you’re miles above the pack!
