Ivan Toney says Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s equalising goal during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Brentford was ‘lucky’, as he told Amazon Prime Sport.

Once again, Antonio Conte’s side had to fall behind in order to start their engine during a game, this time it was the small matter of scoring two second-half goals to pick a point on Boxing Day against their London neighbours.

Harry Kane, after his penalty miss at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, headed Spurs back into the game, before Hojbjerg scored his fourth goal of the season, which maintains his side’s spot in fourth place.

Whilst the Denmark international was well-placed in the penalty area when he guided his effort into the back of the net, he did receive a helping hand when the cross was put into the box.

Dejan Kulusevki, who was on his weaker right foot, tried to drill the ball across the six-yard area aiming for his teammates, instead, it hit a Brentford player and deflected straight into the path of Hojbjerg who scored.

That’s probably why Toney felt Spurs got ‘lucky’ yesterday, although, he did acknowledge the goal that was scored by Kane and how it was a ‘fair result’.

“They have the quality to get back into the game,” said Toney. “It’s a great ball into the box and Harry (Kane) doing what he does best by putting it into the back of the net with a great header.

“I think they got a bit lucky with the second one (Hojbjerg equaliser), but it shows their character by digging in deep, in the end, the draw was the fair result.”

SAME OLD TOTTENHAM

If Tottenham maintain this throughout the season, then north London will be full of covered-up holes dug up by the Spurs players.

This isn’t healthy and it wouldn’t be a surprise if fans think they won’t maintain it.

At this moment in time, it’s getting them through, but when the pressure really is put on the points in April and May, then they can’t be falling behind because it will test them in ways like never before.

Luckily for Conte, his team are displaying the right characteristics needed for fightbacks and they have a forward line that can put several goals past anyone.
