Tottenham icon Ramon Vega has ripped into Daniel Levy for his partnership with Formula One following the FA Cup exit.

What’s the story?

Well, Levy struck a 15-year deal with Formula 1 on Wednesday that will see a Go Kart track installed underneath the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It is due to open later this year.

However, it has come under scrutiny following Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup, which, barring a shock Champions League win, will mean another season without silverware.

Levy has been under the spotlight for his focus on facilities and other dealings as Spurs struggle for success on the pitch, leading many to question whether he is fully committed to achieving anything in football with Tottenham.

Now, Vega – who made 76 appearances for Tottenham and was part of the 1999 League Cup winning side – has sarcastically mocked Levy, referring to the Go Kart track as well as making a reference to the upcoming music concerts held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 51-year-old wrote on Twitter: “Luckily we have an F-1 track and music concerts to look forward to!”

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium plays host to Beyoncé in May and June, while the Red Hot Chilli Peppers are set to appear in N17 in June.

Of course, fans probably wouldn’t be too bothered about this extra revenue if it coincided with them having a successful football team to get behind, although that is far from the case under Levy.

F1 deal could result in Tottenham takeover

Interestingly – as revealed by The Times – the Formula One partnership could be the first step towards Liberty Media taking over Tottenham.

Sources suggested that this agreement could eventually see the American company add a football team to their sports portfolio, although it seems that is just a whisper at this stage.

Nevertheless, it is something for Tottenham fans to keep track of as frustration towards Levy grows stronger.
