Former Rangers coach Peter Lovenkrands has opened up on the experience he gained from working with Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale at Ibrox as the Dane takes his first steps in his own management career.

Lovenkrands was appointed as manager of Danish side Fremad Amager and gained “important tools” working as part of the Academy staff at Rangers.

During his time working with B team, Lovenkrands was involved in the club’s ambitious Games Programme against Academy sides from the likes of Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Liverpool, hailing the benefits as a coach of coming up against clubs with “well-established” youth systems.

“From my time at Rangers, I gained a lot of experience from Steven Gerrard and Michael Beale who gave me some important tools in everyday life,” Lovenkrands told his new club’s official website.

“The leadership role of the B team gave me an opportunity to work on my development and the development of the players who had to fight for a place on a really strong first team under the leadership of Gerrard.

“We also played Bayern Munich, Benfica, FC Copenhagen and among others.

“There was a lot to be learned by playing against clubs with such well-established youth setups.”

Rangers fans delighted for Lovenkrands

After the Dane’s move was confirmed Rangers fans took to Twitter to wish him good luck as he embarks on his first role in management.

With a number of ex-Rangers players taking up manager’s jobs recently, it will be interesting to see whether any Gers Academy kids are sent out on loan to work with them.

Lovenkrands already knows first-hand what Rangers want from their young players so it would offer an interesting prospect for the young Gers hopefuls.
