Chelsea are reportedly considering a shock move to sign Wolves defender Nelson Semedo and if the Portugal international decides to depart – Julen Lopetegui should think about raiding Tottenham for Djed Spence, on loan.
Graham Potter is likely to look for cover on the right side of his defence ahead of January. The injury to Reece James has highlighted the lack of cover for the England star. Especially, when Cesar Azpilicueta is being used elsewhere.
Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips has told Give Me Sport that £37million signing Semedo is being considered by the Blues. With his contract yet to be sorted out, a move might tempt Wolves into a sale. But he will need replacing.
Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, who is renowned for his Tottenham connections, says Spurs would loan Spence out “tomorrow” if they could. He also told Give Me Sport that Spence would prefer to stay in the Premier League.
Chelsea considering Semedo: Wolves should think about Spence
Semedo will be tempted with a move to Chelsea. His move has not gone to plan at Wolves. A move to Chelsea would see him become back-up, but get chances off the bench and replace James – when James is unavailable.
It would see Semedo return to the Champions League, which he got a taste for while at Barcelona. So, the chances of Wolves being able to deter Semedo from a move to Chelsea seems unlikely. Wolves will need a new right-back.
The perfect option might not be available but a loan deal for a player that deserves Premier League game time makes sense. Spence is a player that starred in the Championship last term and boasts enormous potential.
A loan to Wolves for Spence would suit all three clubs. Wolves would get a serious talent to replace Semedo, if the latter does go. Spence would get Premier League game time. For Tottenham, Spence would develop and improve.
