Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are massive North London rivals, and Eric Dier has noted how the two clubs coped after building their new grounds, the Emirates Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium respectively.

Eric Dier, who left Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, has pointed out how Arsenal went into a decline on the pitch after building the Emirates Stadium.

Dier, who can play as a defender or as a defensive midfielder, has said that Tottenham have not had those issues.

The Englishman has praised Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for the way he runs his club and has said that he finds it baffling that some Spurs fans criticise him.

Eric Dier on Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy

Dier told The Times about Levy: “Daniel’s a very strong businessman. He’s an extremely difficult man to negotiate with but he looks after the club.

“I just find it funny when I went to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and see ‘Levy Out’ and I’m thinking, this guy over the last ten years has built the best infrastructure in football, best training ground, best stadium — and a team during all of that time that has stayed relatively competitive, reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

“You look at some other clubs struggling now that Financial Fair Play is becoming a big thing. That’s where I have a lot of respect for Daniel.

“Look at Arsenal when they built their new stadium, you saw that decline of the team, there were financial constraints as they built, and only now they’re finally coming back.

“You never hear Tottenham in any of these FFP conversations. It’s baffling to me that a Tottenham fan could ever be upset with someone who looks after a club in that way.”

My View: Arsenal way ahead of Tottenham Hotspur

In my opinion, Arsenal are a bigger club than Tottenham Hotspur and are way ahead in terms of progression and success.

True, Spurs reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019, but Arsenal did so back in 2006. The Gunners also have a history of winning the Premier League title.

What is frustrating about Tottenham is that they failed to build on their success under head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino came close to leading Tottenham to the Premier League title and took the team to the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2019.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy should have then seized the opportunity and invested in the squad and brought in top-class players.

Yes, Tottenham did bring in good players in the summer of 2023, but while they are now aiming to finish in the top four, Arsenal could win the Premier League title.
