Everton found their new manager last week in Rafael Benitez, meaning the lingering Vitor Pereira rumours can be put away once again.

It feels like Pereira is a name mentioned with Everton every time the job becomes available, and that has been happening for years now.

Goal reported in 2013 that Pereira – then in charge of Porto – was a top choice to replace David Moyes following his move to Manchester United.

When Marco Silva was sacked in 2019, Pereira was again targeted, but he allegedly turned down the job in favour of staying at Shanghai SIPG.

The job went to Carlo Ancelotti, but when he left, guess what? Pereira was back in the mix. On the shortlist according to The Mirror and keen on the job according to The Sun, the Portuguese boss was once again linked with Everton.

Pereira heads back to Turkey

Everton appointed Rafael Benitez last week, meaning Pereira had missed out on a move to Goodison Park once again.

He has landed himself a new job though, having been confirmed as the new manager of Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The 52-year-old did actually manage Fenerbahce between June 2015 and August 2016, losing just nine of his 62 games in charge of the club.

After spell at 1860 Munich and Shanghai SIPG, Pereira is back in Turkey – and his name can officially be crossed off for Everton now with his new job secured and Benitez in place.
