Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn is set to join Sheffield United despite interest from several other clubs, according to the Daily Mirror (liveblog entry 11:01).

Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic had been strongly linked with moves for Woodburn, but a season-long loan to Sheffield United appears to be on the cards.

United manager Chris Wilder has admitted wanting to sign a new attacking midfielder and centre forward before the end of the summer transfer window, and the Liverpool talent can operate comfortably in either position.

It is, however, in the former role that he is perhaps most likely to operate – replacing his Wales national team colleague David Brooks at Bramall Lane.

Woodburn, who does not turn 19 until October, has scored prolifically for Liverpool’s youth teams, and found the net on only his second senior appearance, against Leeds United in 2016.

He was also famously on target just minutes into his Wales debut last September.

As well as Woodburn, Aston Villa are also interested in adding West Ham United’s Jordan Hugill and Wigan’s Nick Powell to their attacking options, according to the Sun.

Are Sheffield United, not Aston Villa, the best fit for the Liverpool forward?
