Liverpool are reportedly targeting a move for Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko ahead of the January window – a player that Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has said he would love to play alongside, in 2020.
Born in 2004, Moukoko is one of a number of young talents thriving at Dortmund. Still only 17, the Germany Under-21 international has already clocked up 53 senior appearances for the German club – having a hand in 16 goals.
Of those 53, 20 came alongside Haaland. The duo even combined, with Moukoko scoring one of his nine goals in a 2-1 defeat to Freiburg in February 2021 – assisted by Haaland. There are incredibly high hopes for Moukoko at Dortmund.
But his fast-tracked progression into the first team has not gone unnoticed. SPORT claim that Liverpool are winning the race to sign Moukoko from Dortmund, ahead of Barcelona. Haaland said, in 2020, that he is a big fan of Moukoko.

“I would love to play alongside him,” as quoted by the Bundesliga’s website. “I think he’s the biggest talent in the world right now. He’s 16 years and one day old, that’s amazing. He has a big career ahead of him. We’re lucky to have him.”

Moukoko is an incredible talent. To have already surpassed 50 senior appearances – albeit, 42 of his 53 outings have come from the bench – at just 17, is remarkable. He is ready though, judging by his form for Dortmund’s youth sides.
For the Under-17’s at Dortmund, he netted an immense 90 goals in 56 games. At Under-19 level, which is still two years above his age, he already has 47 goals in 25 games. Stunning numbers and perhaps, the next Haaland?
Whether he can now break into Dortmund’s starting line-up in the near future, remains to be seen. This season, he has started seven of his 16 outings – having a hand in nine goals, scoring four and creating five. He could be incredible.
