Liverpool are reportedly beating the likes of FC Barcelona to the signing of Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko, who is regarded by many as one of the most exciting talents in all of Europe.
According to Sport, Xavi Hernandez’s side have set their sights on Moukoko with the teenager’s contract with Dortmund set to expire in 2023, with little work happening from the German club to tie the forward down to a new long-term deal. However, Liverpool are ‘best placed’ to sign the 17-year-old.
As per the report, the influence of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s recent streak of playing teenagers, such as Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvahlo, will give the Reds the edge in the race to sign Moukoko, who has smashed numerous records over the past two years with Dortmund.
The attacker remains the youngest Bundesliga player ever as well as the youngest scorer in the league’s history, with Moukoko also the youngest player ever to play in the UEFA Champions League, with the forward a regular for Dortmund this season.

The versatile attacker has already bagged four goals and five assists in all competitions for Edin Terzic’s side, yet with Moukoko’s contract set to expire in just over eight months, Dortmund are running out of time to tie one of their star assets down to a new deal.
Indeed, whilst Liverpool might lead the race to sign Moukoko, there’s a strong chance that the German youth international will renew with Dortmund given just how perfect the Bundesliga side are for the attacker’s development in the years to come.
Liverpool should look to sign Moukoko some years from now

Liverpool have done well in recent seasons to beat rival clubs to some of Europe’s most exciting talents, and although Moukoko fits the bill for what the Reds have done in the market, the attacker is still too young and raw to make the step to the Premier League.
Whilst Moukoko will no doubt become a world-class striker in the years to come, Liverpool would be wise to move for the attacker in a few years time when he is more developed and ready to play top-flight football in England, with Dortmund the perfect club for the youngster to hone his craft.
