Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur in a game that could be very important in the race for the top four.

Liverpool host Tottenham on Saturday evening in a game that could have big implications on the race for the Premier League’s top four. But where do you expect the points to be going?

The fight for second place: surprising Tottenham poll results

There is no question that it is Mauricio Pochettino’s men who have the momentum on their side going into the game. Spurs have not lost a single game since mid-December, winning nine and drawing two since the narrow defeat to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Liverpool look to have gone completely off the boil since the turn of the year. Their only victory since beating Manchester City on New Year’s Eve came against Plymouth in the FA Cup, and they have lost four of their last five, having been beaten by the likes of Swansea, Hull and Championship side Wolves.

That form has seen Jurgen Klopp’s men fall out of the top four and four points adrift of today’s opponents, who sit second.

And they will know that with Arsenal and Manchester City also ahead in their next six fixtures, they will need to improve their form dramatically if they hope to not get cut adrift from the rest of the teams battling for a Champions League spot.

However, Tottenham are unlikely to do them any favours. Spurs certainly have a chance of closing the nine-point gap to Chelsea but will know that too many dropped points over the coming games could dash those slim title hopes completely.

So while Tottenham may be favourites for the contest based on form, perhaps Liverpool’s home advantage could help turn the form book on its head.
