Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk has raved about his teammate Diogo Jota on BBC Sport after the Carabao Cup tie against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Jota scored twice for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Arsenal away from home in the second leg of the Carabao Cup tie at the Emirates Stadium.

The Portugal international forward scored the first goal in the 19th minute and the second on 77 minutes.

Liverpool central defender Van Dijk has raved about the 25-year-old former Wolverhampton Wanderers star.

Van Dijk said about Jota on BBC Sport: “Diogo Jota is already a fantastic player, the numbers speak for themselves.

“He is very important, he has shown it from last year and a difficult striker/winger to play against. I know it from training. He has stepped up tonight again.

“He took the second goal fanatically well, a great ball form Trent Alexander-Arnold and it put relief in the team.”

Diogo Jota a big player for Liverpool

In our view, Jota is a big player for Liverpool and has been a big success for the Anfield club already.

The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided one assist in 17 Premier League starts for the Reds so far the season.

The Liverpool no. 20 scored nine goals in 12 Premier League starts last season.

In our opinion, Jota should now be ahead of Roberto Firmino in the pecking order in the Liverpool front-three.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are, of course, the two constants in the Liverpool front-three.

Liverpool can still catch Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and are still in the Champions League.

We think that Jota will be a massive player for the Reds in their domestic and European quest this season.
