Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website that Trent Alexander-Arnold has to improve.
Klopp made the comments about Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool’s win against West Ham United at Anfield in the Premier League at the weekend.
The England international right-back provided the assist for Sadio Mane’s goal.
Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Alexander-Arnold: “Absolutely, I don’t understand that [criticism of his defending], that’s true, but I don’t think I will change that with whatever I will say tonight.
“But if he couldn’t defend, he would not play here – at least not that in that position. He improved in all departments and defending of course as well.
“But he is that young that he can improve and has to improve, but yes, his defending is not a problem we have.”
The Liverpool boss added: “So, when you see him playing I think we help him a little bit with positioning and stuff like this.
“We try to bring him into positions, formation-wise, where he can be that influential but of course it’s all about him and his skillset and his quality and his right foot and his overview.”

Good man-management
In our view, Klopp publicly saying that Alexander-Arnold needs to improve is very good man-management.
We know that the 23-year-old is one of the best right-backs in the world.
However, Alexander-Arnold can also improve.
After all, the England international defender is only 23.
We think that Alexander-Arnold is going to get better and could eventually become of the best right-backs ever.
There is always room for improvement in any player’s game.
And, in our opinion, it is very encouraging to see Klopp publicly saying that about Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold has won the Premier League and the Champions League already with Liverpool so early in his career.
And there is every chance that he will win more major titles and silverware in his career.
