Liverpool lead the race for the January transfer of Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat. But the midfielder has now decided to stay at the Serie A side until, at least, the end of the season.
That is according to Calciomercato, which reports Amrabat has yet to nor will he push for a move in January. Instead, his head is now focused only on ending the campaign with I Viola before considering his future. Even if the Moroccan finds interest from top clubs flattering.
Suitors have explored the 26-year-old’s availability for a mid-season transfer after Amrabat shone at the World Cup. But Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has so far fended off those keen on the 46-cap international. He swiftly set a €40m (£35m) asking price for the anchor.

Commisso’s valuation extinguished the interests of Amrabat’s suitors, including Liverpool, for a transfer this January. No team has shown any willingness to splash out on the Huizen, Netherlands-born technician. He is just under contract to 2024 with an option for 2024/25.
Liverpool would be on the front row to seal Amrabat’s transfer if Commisso lowers I Viola’s asking price. But the Serie A side’s expectations are high after he played a key role at Qatar 2022. Amrabat helped Morocco reach the semi-finals and played each minute of their ties.

Amrabat will frustrate Klopp as Liverpool court the Fiorentina star’s transfer
So, Amrabat will now shelve his desire to leave Fiorentina this January and will wait for the summer for any transfer. The 6ft enforcer is now intent only on finishing this season with I Viola. Then, come the off-season, it will be time for him to move to a higher-calibre team.
Whether Amrabat’s transfer from Fiorentina will still interest Liverpool at the of the term remains to be seen. But Roy Keane considers his efforts at the World Cup ‘outstanding’ as he dominated in the midfield. Yet Liverpool were not Amrabat’s first choice destination.
According to Foot Mercato, Amrabat has wanted to join Atletico Madrid in January and not Liverpool. Reds coach Jurgen Klopp had even met with the midfielder’s agent to discuss his switch to Anfield. Yet the Moroccan staying in Italy will now frustrate the German instead.
