Liverpool are now unlikely to replace Roberto Firmino in the summer transfer window. The striker has told Jurgen Klopp that he will leave Anfield once his contract expires on June 30.
That is according to Dean Jones, who claims that the chances of Klopp replacing Firmino in the summer are ‘slim’. Instead, he reports that ‘I’m told the priority’ at Anfield is to sign an elite central midfielder. The Reds believe they are well-positioned to cope without Firmino.
Liverpool already viewed strengthening Klopp’s engine room as their absolute main target for the next transfer window. But Firmino’s decision to leave Merseyside after eight years will not impact the Reds’ intentions. Instead, they will continue with their current options.

Klopp has confirmed that Firmino has, indeed, decided to leave Liverpool with his contract due to end this summer. The German said this Sunday after the Reds humbled Manchester United, via quotes by the Liverpool Echo: “Bobby, tonight, was the most special moment.
“It was not an easy decision for him. The reception he got was absolutely outstanding. “With all the wonderful goals he scored, that’s the goal he pretty much wanted the most.”
Liverpool will not replace Firmino once his contract expires this summer
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg broke the news last Friday of Firmino informing Klopp that he had decided to leave Liverpool at the end of his contract. While 90min noted that he chose to go after the Reds stated he would be some way down their pecking order.

Liverpool were in talks with Firmino over a new contract with his £180k-a-week deal set to expire this summer. Klopp, in particular, wanted the Brazilian to remain on Merseyside in the summer. But he will now look ahead to starting a new challenge with many clubs keen.
Reports by Calciomercato claim Galatasaray instantly stepped up their interest and would be happy to match his current wage. While A Spor had already noted that the 31-year-old would look positively on a move to the Super Lig side if he did not agree to a new contract.
Klopp, meanwhile, will advance with Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah as his attacking options. While Firmino will leave Anfield after winning the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup and FA Cup over 354 games and 108 goals.
