Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to strike a loan-to-buy deal to sign Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher – responding to a report from Sky Sports News on Instagram, who say Crystal Palace are interested in bringing him back.

Gallagher, 22, is back at Chelsea and a part of the Blues side this season. It comes after going out on loan four times, firstly to Charlton Athletic. Then, a move to Swansea. That earned him the chance to play for West Brom in the top tier.

But he went from a decent prospect, to a real talent when he starred for Palace last season. He had a hand in 13 goals in 39 games in all competitions. Now, at Chelsea, he has played 24 times in all competitions – but starting just 10 times.

Sky Sports have reported on Instagram that Gallagher is a target for Palace, who are keen to sign him. It is unclear the stance Gallagher has, who was a part of England’s World Cup squad in Qatar – but failed to play a single minute.

Liverpool really need midfield additions. Whether they do any business this month remains to be seen. But in the summer, they are set to wave goodbye to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner on free transfers.

They are all out of contract. Thiago and Jordan Henderson are in their thirties, and Fabinho is struggling for form. So, Liverpool need to sign a midfielder. Gallagher might be ideal – young, and a whole lot cheaper than Jude Bellingham.

Ex-Liverpool defender Enrique responded to Sky Sports News’ post. He urged his old club to make a move that would see Liverpool sign Gallagher on loan with a permanent option. The Telegraph say Newcastle want to sign Gallagher.
