According to Corriere Dello Sport, Liverpool face an uphill battle if they’re to sign Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer.
Pellegrini has been shining in Italy, registering 11 goals and nine assists in 47 games across all competitions for Roma last season.
The 25-year-old is unsurprisingly attracting interest, but new boss Jose Mourinho will be desperate to build his midfield around Pellegrini rather than lose him.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Pellegrini
The report states that Barcelona and Liverpool both want to sign Pellegrini, and their interest is flattering to the midfielder.
Liverpool have just let Georginio Wijnaldum leave the club on a free transfer, meaning they could be in the market to replace him.
As for Barca, they missed out on signing Wijnaldum as he joined Paris Saint-Germain instead, but it looks like both clubs are going to miss out.

Pellegrini wants to become another Totti
It’s suggested that Pellegrini is waiting for Roma to give him a new deal, and strengthen the bond between himself and the club he has loved since he was a kid.
Pellegrini was born in Rome and wants to follow in the footsteps of Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti by being a Roman captain of the club.
Totti has branded Pellegrini ‘phenomenal‘, so it’s no wonder he wants to be just like Totti – and that emotional reason may mean Liverpool are snubbed this summer.
