Liverpool target rejects new contract after £35m Arsenal bid, now willing to join Gunners

Arsenal target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will not be signing a new contract at Lazio amid interest from the Gunners and Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well – according to Matteo Moretto – the Arsenal and Liverpool target will not sign a new contract at Lazio, and is now 90% likely to change clubs at the end of the season.

It was Calcio Mercato Web who revealed that Jürgen Klopp is interested in Milinkovic-Savic.

Elsewhere – according to Calciomercato – Arsenal have made a £35m bid for the Serbia international, with Corriere dello Sport adding that he is willing to join the north Londoners.

Milinkovic-Savic has made a name for himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe across recent years.

The 28-year-old is a physical presence standing at 6ft 2in in the heart of Lazio’s midfield, but he also possesses the technical ability to make an impact in the final third.

Milinkovic-Savic has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 36 appearances so far this season.

Moretto believes Lazio could now sell their No.21 for a sum of €40m (£35m) after he rejected a new contract, with Juventus also paying close attention to the situation.

Liverpool or Arsenal have alternatives to Milinkovic-Savic

Whoever loses out in the race to sign Milinkovic-Savic could still sign themselves a top midfielder.

The Times believe Arsenal are also interested in Declan Rice – with the Telegraph adding that the West Ham No.41 is also on Liverpool’s radar.

Rice seems keen to leave West Ham as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, telling the Guardian that he wants to play in the Champions League and win trophies.

The 23-year-old said: “For the last two or three years I’ve been saying that. I see my friends here who are playing Champions League and for big trophies.”

The likes of Moises Caicedo – who Arsenal tried to sign in January – could also be on the market this summer.

As you can see, Milinkovic-Savic is not the only top midfielder up for grabs this summer, so whoever misses out on his signature can still find themselves a strong alternative.
