Liverpool may be in the market for a new midfielder this summer having lost Georgina Wijnaldum on a free transfer – and Pedri is being touted as a target.
Wijnaldum has moved on to Paris Saint-Germain, and whilst Jurgen Klopp has Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at his disposal, a new signing is possible.
One of the most exciting links has been with Barcelona talent Pedri, who has been shining for Spain at Euro 2020.
Praised as a ‘mini Luka Modric’ by Emma Hayes, Pedri has been Spain’s midfield metronome and a vital part of their run to the semi-finals of the competition.
The Mirror reported in April that Liverpool had made contact with Pedri’s representatives to figure out if he would be keen on a move to Anfield.
Pedri has a £70million release clause in his contract, but with Barcelona in financial meltdown, this could be a good time to launch a cheaper deal.
The 18-year-old looks set for a huge future, and Liverpool’s hopes of striking a deal for him may have been boosted after he raved about Spain teammate Thiago.

Ahead to tonight’s Euro 2020 semi-final with Italy, Pedri has been quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that he thinks Thiago has ‘immense’ quality.
Pedri talked up playing with a midfielder that ‘wonderful’, and given that Thiago is a key man at Liverpool, the prospect of playing with him regularly at club level has to be appealing.
“I’m very lucky to play alongside Thiago,” said Pedri. “It’s wonderful to see him in training and wonderful to play with him.
“He has immense quality and I think everybody has seen that on television,” he added.
