Liverpool have been linked with a big move for Barcelona midfielder Pedri – and Emma Hayes has now raved about his latest performance.

Pedri started once again for Spain on Monday evening as they took on Croatia at Euro 2020, and played an important role in a 5-3 win.

That doesn’t quite tell the story of a topsy-turvy game, with Spain throwing away a 3-1 lead as Croatia forced extra time, before La Roja ended up finally winning.

Liverpool’s interest in Pedri

The Mirror reported in April that Liverpool want to sign Pedri, and have already made contact with his representatives to discuss a deal.

Pedri has a £70million release clause in his Barcelona contract, with the La Liga side chasing a new contract with a £350million release clause.

That would take Pedri out of Liverpool’s reach, but the current release clause does give the Reds some hope of luring the teenager to Anfield.

Emma Hayes raves about Pedri display

Chelsea Women’s coach Emma Hayes was on co-commentary during ITV’s coverage of the game, and she was blown away by Pedri.

Hayes suggested that Pedri is a ‘mini Luka Modric’, raving about his ability to find spaces between players and open up the game.

“What a game this guy’s had, Pedri,” said Hayes. “He pops in those little pockets, he’s almost like a mini Modric. It’s his ability to take the ball on the back foot and open up the pitch – I think that’s exceptional.”

“It’s not just his vision, it’s his technique, it’s his game intelligence. Look at him, how he’s always positioning himself between players, so clever,” she added.

Those abilities would surely be loved at Anfield, and maybe his performances in this tournament will tempt Liverpool into making their move.
