Liverpool fans have been crying out for a midfielder to be signed. The Reds elected against replacing Gini Wijnaldum over the summer and the decision was seen as a risk by plenty of Kopites.
Reported Liverpool target Jude Bellingham is allegedly available for over £85m. The deal to sign Virgil van Dijk shows the Reds will splash out when they need to.

Midfielder needed
Last season Liverpool sold Dejan Lovren and decided not to bring in a successor.
The club was confident in the fitness of the senior centre backs, a gamble which backfired within weeks.
As a result the decision not to replace the perpetually available Gini Wijnaldum has raised eyebrows in some quarters.
Harvey Elliott impressed but he is unlikely to play again until towards the end of the season.
Liverpool target Jude Bellingham
There is one young midfielder every top club in Europe wants.
The Daily Star recently claimed Liverpool hold an interest in Jude Bellingham. The report has since been backed up by The Times and Sport1.
Bild in Germany has taken issue with the price quoted by the Star.
The British outlet stated that the Reds are preparing a bid of around £80m.
However, the German publication believes it would take an offer over €100m (around £85m).
Virgil van Dijk precedent
In 2018 Liverpool set something of a precedent for their recruitment.
The Reds spent £75m on bringing the Dutchman to Anfield.
The move showed us that when it is the right player at the right time the Reds won’t hesitate to splash the cash.
Jude Bellingham is just 18-years-old, he has his whole career ahead of him and therefore fits the FSG transfer profile perfectly.
If there is anybody in the world that Liverpool would spend close to £100m on it is Bellingham.
