Gary Neville has claimed that Sadio Mane was seemingly ‘apologising’ to his Liverpool teammates on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports (12/09/21 at 6:25 pm).

The former right-back thinks the Liverpool player was suggesting ‘I can’t believe it has taken this long’ for him to get on the scoresheet.

Even though Liverpool were comfortably 2-0 up heading into the final few moments at Elland Road, Mane still had numerous chances during the game, where he should have put the ball into the back of the net.

Following some outstanding play from Thiago, where the ball was eventually fed to Mane, he got his goal in stoppage-time to seal a 3-0 win for his side.

And Neville predicted what the in-form Liverpool forward would have been thinking.

“He has scored emphatically,” said Neville. “But he is almost apologising to his teammates by saying ‘I can’t believe it has taken this long’. He has had great chances.”

It has been a solid start to the season for Mane and one that the £34 million Liverpool star needed (BBC Sport).

Last season, by Mane’s standards, he was nowhere near his best and it was perhaps the worst return of his career since being in Liverpool colours.

But class is permanent when it comes to the Senegal international and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t hit double figures in the Premier League this season.

If that’s the case then Jurgen Klopp will be hoping, after an injury-hit campaign last time out, they can cause more damage in their quest to win the title once more.
