Italian outlet CMW claim that Liverpool will pursue a January move to sign Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in the January window – after Arthur was sidelined until the new year. A player, that Arsenal made a bid to sign on deadline day.

Liverpool were forced into the midfield market towards the end of the summer. Injuries to Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left them depleted in midfield. Arthur was brought in on loan.

But Arthur, who has managed just one substitute appearance in the 4-1 defeat to Napoli, has picked up an injury. One that will keep him out until the new year. It might be that in January, Jurgen Klopp decides to cancel his Juventus loan.

Indeed, Liverpool are already looking for replacements and are set to pursue a deal for Luiz. The Brazil international is out of contract at the end of the season – and Steven Gerrard could be willing to let him go for a cut-price figure.

On deadline day, while Liverpool were signing Arthur, Arsenal made three bids for Luiz – according to Sky Sports. All of which were rejected. Now, CMW say that Liverpool are ready to make a January move for Luiz, ahead of Arsenal.

Liverpool will pursue January move to sign Villa star Luiz

Luiz is going to be one of the big stories in the January window. The midfielder will be looking at Villa’s start to the season and thinking that there is little point remaining at the club until the summer. Villa might want some cash.

That is, instead of losing the ex-Manchester City star on a free transfer next summer. A move to Liverpool would be a brilliant one for Luiz – it would give him the opportunity to start for a team that are right at the top, but need him.

He would be an improvement on the likes of Jordan Henderson and more, this season. He would also team up with numerous fellow Brazilians, like Alisson, Roberto Firmino and Arthur – if the latter remains. A good move for all.
