Sir Martin Broughton has changed his mind about buying Liverpool from current owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG), according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has added on Twitter that the British businessman wanted to buy Chelsea before Todd Boehly-lead BlueCo 22 Limited bought the Blues.

The CBS Sports journalist has reported that Sir Martin tried to buy Chelsea over the summer of 2022 when the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners were up for sale.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has added on Twitter that the 75-year-old British businessman gave “serious consideration” to the prospect of buying Liverpool over the festive period, but he has now decided not to proceed.

Liverpool have been put up for sale by their current owners FSG.

Getting ownership resolved soon

In our view, the sooner Liverpool have new owners the better for the club as a whole.

Now, of course, we know that FSG are very committed to Liverpool and will continue to do their best, but that they have put the Merseyside club up for sale suggests that they are ready to move on.

We think that the sooner Liverpool get new owners, the better it would be for the team and the fans, as the squad does need freshening up next summer, especially in midfield.
