Liverpool are reportedly set to meet the agent of a defensive target that the Reds are hoping to sign this summer.
Arne Slot has been frustrated in the transfer market with the rebuild that Liverpool were hoping to achieve under the Dutchman not going to plan at all with the Reds yet to make a senior first-team addition this summer.
Martin Zubimendi snubbed Liverpool after it appeared that the Reds were making progress in the deal to sign the 25-year-old, who played the second half of the Euro 2024 final against England.
Another position that Liverpool were hoping to prioritise this summer was central defence with the Reds previously ‘working hard’ to sign Leny Yoro before the teenager joined Manchester United.

Liverpool set to meet with Goncalo Inacio’s agent this week
Despite the Zubimendi deal collapsing at the 11th hour, there does seem to be money to spend on incomings for the Anfield club and a new centre-back could be targeted.
Virgil Van Dijk has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League this summer with the Dutchman entering the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.
According to a report from O Jogo, Liverpool are set to meet the agent of Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio this week to discover what it would take for the Reds to sign the Portuguese defender.
Miguel Pinho, Inacio’s agent, is reportedly going to have a meeting with the Anfield club, where presumably he’ll try to get a firm offer from them.
Liverpool have previously looked at Inacio
Back in January, HITC reported that Liverpool were scouting Inacio with the Reds present for Sporting Lisbon’s 5-1 win over Estoril.
Newcastle United were also present but the Magpies were understood to be watching Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, rather than the Portuguese defender Inacio.
Pinho is also Bruno Fernandes’ agent and negotiated the player’s new Manchester United contract, which was announced on Wednesday. That obviously saw him travel to England, where it’s stated he still is, and this allows an easier meeting with Liverpool.
Crucially, the report states that the Reds are ‘expected to present their proposal’ for the Portuguese defender. Inacio has a release clause in his contract worth £52 million but Sporting would reportedly be open to a £38 million deal.
Inacio was described by Portuguese outlet Renascenca as the ‘Portuguese boss’ and a move to Anfield this summer could be on the cards for the promising centre-back.
