Don Hutchison says Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Sofyan Amrabat hasn’t performed well for ’18 months’ in the colours of ACF Fiorentina amid rumours that Liverpool are keen to sign the midfielder during the January window, as he told ESPN.

The 26-year-old’s stock is currently high after he was a crucial figure in Morocco creating history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals – Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are also looking at the player.

That has resulted in many clubs across Europe, notably Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who are in need of midfield reinforcements, looking to sign the hard-hitting £40 million-rated star.

At nearly the halfway stage of the January transfer window, Amrabat is still in Florence, as he recently returned to domestic action when he came off the bench during his side’s 1-1 draw against Monza, before being an unused substitute when Fiorentina beat Sassuolo over the weekend.

Could the Reds possibly add him to their ranks this month? Before they fish for the bigger catch in the summer during the summer transfer window, such as Jude Bellingham?

Well, former Liverpool player Hutchison made it clear that the Merseyside giants can’t panic, as he also shared his thoughts on Amrabat.

“They have to make sure they don’t panic (in the transfer market),” said Hutchison. “I have seen Amrabat at the World Cup.

“He had a brilliant World Cup for Morocco. He hasn’t been that good for Fiorentina for 18 months, so you can’t just panic and look at these players and think ‘that’s the one I need’. Make sure you get the right one.”

LIVERPOOL NEED THAT DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER

Liverpool’s issues aren’t what they do with the ball, even some of their wasted chances in the final third won’t worry fans too much.

But it’s what happens when the midfield is being put under pressure, as soon as they lose the ball and what players do when they have to run back.

That’s why another defensive brain, who has the energy to burn, needs to be added during the January transfer window, before they push for the bigger fish in the summer.

But will FSG, who are looking to sell the Reds, be willing to put big money down on the table? Well, they showed that they are with Cody Gakpo, so that should give fans hope.
