Liverpool face Rangers tonight as the Reds return to Champions League action with Jurgen Klopp desperate for another win.

Saturday’s home game against Brighton and Hove Albion didn’t exactly go to plan.

Falling 2-0 down in the first half was a nightmare situation for the off-colour Reds, but they then roared back to 3-2 up – only to then concede late on and drop two points.

Liverpool just don’t look themselves this season and it hasn’t been much better in the Champions League.

The 4-1 thrashing at Napoli was followed up by a rather unconvincing 2-1 win over Ajax, so Liverpool really need a strong display and result against Rangers tonight.

Liverpool predicted lineup v Rangers

Alisson is one of few Liverpool players to have maintained pretty high standards this season and we can’t see him losing his place tonight unless there is a late issue.

Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be criticised this season but Liverpool will surely look for him to play his way into form rather than drop him.

Over on the left side of defence, Andrew Robertson is still out injured so Kostas Tsimikas will get the nod again.

Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are likely to keep their places at the back although Ibrahima Konate is nearing a return to first-team action.

Fabinho has been noticeably poor this season and had a spat with Jurgen Klopp on Saturday but should keep his place at the base of Liverpool’s midfield.

Thiago Alcantara is vital in the engine room and Harvey Elliott may be primed for a return to the starting XI having only been a substitute on Saturday.

Roberto Firmino is in decent form and scored twice on Saturday but this could be an ideal chance for Darwin Nunez to start and get some minutes under his belt.

Nunez, hailed as ‘special’ by Pepijn Lijnders, hasn’t hit the ground running in a Liverpool shirt but needs to be given more chances.

Mohamed Salah should start on the right with Luis Diaz starting having only been a substitute against Brighton.

That would leave the likes of Joe Gomez, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabio Carvalho, Firmino and Diogo Jota among the Liverpool substitutes tonight.

Liverpool predicted lineup v Rangers: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Thiago, Elliott; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
