Whisper it, but Darwin Nunez could ultimately prove himself a roaring success at Liverpool.

The Anfield outfit smashed their transfer record to sign the £85 million striker from Benfica a little earlier in the summer window.

And he’s proven an instant hit, scoring four goals in a friendly victory over Leipzig, before demonstrating his ability in competitive outings against Manchester City and Fulham over the past couple weeks.

Nunez was signed as Sadio Mane’s long-term replacement on Merseyside, even if he plays more centrally than the Bayern Munich winger was accustomed to.

And Liverpool boss Pep Lijnders has labelled it ‘really cool’ that he’s joined up with the Reds, revealing that he’s already looking like a ‘beast’ in training behind the scenes.

He told Goal.com: “Success comes from working really hard, and Darwin is a beast working in training. He’s special, and it’s really cool that he’s with us.”

Darwin could and probably will start Liverpool’s visit of Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.

Against Fulham last week, Jurgen Klopp deployed Roberto Firmino from the first minute and only brought on the Uruguay international in the second half.

But his game-changing cameo from the bench at Craven Cottage – scoring one and setting up another in a 2-2 draw – is testament to his influence and it would be a mistake for Klopp to keep him benched against the Eagles next week.
