Alisson Becker [Flop of the match vs Real Madrid]- 3/10
While Alisson Becker is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world, his howler for Vinicius Jr.’s equaliser was an absolute howler. The £190,000-a-week man also looked powerless to stop Karim Benzema for the last and final goal of the contest, which is why he earns a lowly 3 in our Liverpool player ratings against Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander-Arnold- 5/10
Whilst Trent Alexander-Arnold ran the show in the first half, he found it impossible to stop Vinicius Jr. in 1v1 situations and once again, failed to answer the defensive questions aimed at him, albeit by one of the best wingers on the planet.
Joe Gomez- 4/10
The English defender had a night to forget for Liverpool at Anfield, earning a deserved 4/10 in our player ratings against Real Madrid.
Joe Gomez had a nightmarish time at the back, failing to close Vinicius Jr. down for the equaliser, forgetting to track Eder Militao for the winner, whilst also having conceded the free-kick needlessly. To make matters worse, the former Charlton centre-back also let in the own goal, albeit rather unluckily.
Virgil van Dijk- 4.5/10
Simply put, not much happened down Virgil van Dijk’s side but ultimately, not much positivity can be in place about a defender who is part of a demolition job like we witnessed at Anfield.
Andy Robertson- 6/10
Defensively, Andy Robertson was usually reliable, whilst being a relentless presser, which is why he has received a 6/10 score in our Liverpool player ratings against Real Madrid.
Fabinho- 5/10
While Fabinho’s ball-carrying was quality on a number of occasions, he was brought back down to earth after being bullied off Luka Modric for the fifth and final goal. A shadow of his former self.
Stefan Bajcetic- 6/10
While Stefan Bajcetic impressed for such a young player playing in such a massive tie, as his passing and composure looked a class apart at times, he was equally extremely sloppy and careless on and off the ball at times.
However, the Spaniard earns a 6/10 in our Liverpool player ratings against Real Madrid for looking the part at times against the champions of Europe.
Jordan Henderson- 5.5/10
Jordan Henderson ran his socks off in the first half, mopping up everything in his way but as the game wore on, his influence continued to decline in a second game where he was virtually anonymous.
Mohamed Salah- 7/10
Fair play to Mohamed Salah for giving David Alaba a headache in the first half and capitalising on Thibaut Courtois’ comical error to double his side’s lead. The Egyptian winger tried as much as he could but not all of his Liverpool teammates were at his level against Real Madrid, which is we earns a solid 7/10 in our player ratings.
Cody Gakpo- 5.5/10
Whilst Cody Gakpo tried to make a nuisance of himself at times, the parallels to the ever-involved Roberto Firmino seemed like a stretch once again.
Darwin Nunez [Man of the Match for Liverpool]- 7/10
The finish from Darwin Nunez was simply sublime to open the scoring, as he continued to make a nuisance of himself.
Nunez’s relentless and drive to run in behind made him a threat but ultimately, Los Merengues stifled one of the hosts’ biggest threats.
