Borna Sosa tips Josko Gvardiol to leave RB Leipzig this summer amid transfer interest from Liverpool. But his Croatia teammate will cost loads as he is the Erling Haaland of defenders.
Croatia made the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup with Sosa and Gvardiol anchoring the Vatreni backline under Zlatko Dalic. The left-back and centre-half have been international teammates since the Under-21s in 2020. They have now played together on 12 occasions.
Sosa also gets a close look at Gvardiol in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart. And the 25-year-old is certain the 21-year-old has now proven he is the best in his position in the world. So, RB Leipzig should demand upwards of €100m (£88m) should a team target Gvardiol’s transfer.

Liverpool are one club positioning themselves to target Gvardiol’s transfer from RB Leipzig this summer, per Rudy Galetti. The Reds are among the sides showing the most interest in a move, as well. Jurgen Klopp is driving their pursuit, too, but faces a €90m (£79m) price tag.
Klopp is keen to see Liverpool target a transfer for Gvardiol to form a dream partnership of Virgil van Dijk and the RB Leipzig star. Yet Die Roten Bullen are under no pressure to sell in the summer. The Zagreb-born star is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until June 2027.

Sosa tips Liverpool transfer target Gvardiol to leave RB Leipzig in the summer
Gvardiol showed one of the reasons why clubs like Liverpool are interested in his transfer as RB Leipzig faced Manchester City in the Champions League this Wednesday. The 19-cap star showed more desire than Ruben Dias to head his side’s equaliser in the last 16 match.
The centre-back enjoyed his 27th appearance of the season so far in the first-leg affair. He had already scored a goal in the Champions League against Real Madrid this term during a 3-2 Group F win. Now, Sosa expects Gvardiol will seal a transfer to one of the world’s best.
“I read that Josko is the Haaland of defenders – I say that one hundred per cent,” Sosa told Sky Germany. “For me, he’s the best defender in the world. He’s only 21 years old – it’s not normal for him to play football like that at such a young age! He still has 15 years to play.
“He is definitely the best defender in the world – he showed that at the World Cup and shows it every week.
“It’s normal for me that he goes to the best club in the world in the summer. I said two years ago that he’ll go for a hundred million [euro]. A lot of people said: ‘No chance’. Now, everyone thinks the same thing. I think under a hundred million [now], no chance!”
