Liverpool are now preparing for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave Anfield in a free transfer once his contract expires. The midfielder is currently set to become a free agent from July 1.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke, who reports Liverpool chiefs feel Oxlade-Chamberlain will begin a new chapter of his career. It is now extremely unlikely that the 29-year-old could win a new contract on Merseyside. He is also already seeing what offers could be around.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been clear to agree to a free transfer with overseas sides ahead of his contract at Liverpool expiring since January 1. He cannot agree to a move to an English club before his £120k-a-week deal expires, though his agent is likely exploring any interest.

Liverpool are very unlikely to offer Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract

Liverpool are highly unlikely to begin talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain about any new contract given his injury record. The 35-cap England international has only featured 11 times so far in 2022/23. He has also not featured since a late five-minute cameo at Wolves on February 4.

Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the first two months of this campaign due to a hamstring injury. He suffered the blow during the Reds’ pre-season friendly with Crystal Palace in Asia. The midfielder then struggled to hold down a role under Jurgen Klopp with five starts all season.

Klopp has elected to omit Oxlade-Chamberlain from five of Liverpool’s last six squads in the Premier League. He was also only an unused substitute for the first leg of the Reds’ last 16 Champions League tie with Real Madrid. He may return for the second leg but it is unlikely.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is already mulling a transfer following Premier League interest

So, while Klopp once called Oxlade-Chamberlin ‘dynamite’, Liverpool expect him to leave in a free transfer once the Reds’ £40m arrival from Arsenal in 2017 hits the end of his contract.

The Daily Mail reported in January that Oxlade-Chamberlain was the subject of interest from Premier League clubs. The Daily Mail also later noted that Brighton & Hove Albion explored a last-gasp deal. While the Daily Mail also reports he has begun to study a future elsewhere.

So, the signs now indicate to Oxlade-Chamberlain having three more months as a Liverpool player. In the last six years, he has 18 goals and 15 assists in 144 games in all competitions.
