Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is now weighing up quitting Anfield in a free transfer this summer. The injury-hit dynamo is out of contract at the end of this campaign.

That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports Oxlade-Chamberlain is now giving serious thought to his future being away from Anfield. The 29-year-old has been at Liverpool since August 2017 when Jurgen Klopp paid Arsenal up to £40m to sign their 35-cap England star.

But injuries have ruined Oxlade-Chamberlain’s career on Merseyside with him making only 144 appearances across all competitions. He has also started just 70 games under Klopp so far, including just 46 Premier League fixtures. It is an average of 11.5 starts each season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has further only offered 18 goals and 15 assists at Liverpool across all competitions. His haul includes just one goal and no assists through 11 appearances so far this term. Klopp has started the midfielder just five times, including four top-flight fixtures.

Klopp was without Oxlade-Chamberlain until October as the £120k-a-week technician had sustained a serious hamstring injury during pre-season. He picked up the blow in a friendly win over Crystal Palace in Singapore in July. It meant he missed 10 Premier League games.

Liverpool ace Oxlade-Chamberlain has transfer interest in the Premier League

The pause in the Premier League schedule for the World Cup afforded Oxlade-Chamberlain a chance to build up his fitness. Klopp would then start the Portsmouth-born ace in each of the Reds’ first four top-flight games. He also scored his sole goal for this term at Brentford.

Yet Klopp dropped Oxlade-Chamberlain against Chelsea and he only introduced the soon-to-be free agent as a late substitute against Wolves. But the German did not cash in on the midfielder he once called ‘dynamite’ in January. Even though teams had explored a move.

The Daily Mail reported ahead of deadline day that a transfer from Liverpool for Oxlade-Chamberlain interested Brighton & Hove Albion. Calciomercato.it also credited AC Milan with an interest in a raid on Anfield. The Serie A side considered a move before the sales.

Liverpool, though, blocked Brighton from securing the transfer of Oxlade-Chamberlain as Klopp demanded a replacement first. The Seagulls were not the only Premier League club tracking his situation, either. Now, rival teams can prepare to sign him for free from July 1.
