Liverpool have joined the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer amid links to Arsenal and Newcastle United.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (01/05, p74), who claim that Liverpool are a suitor for Osimhen ahead of the summer window.
It’s stated that Osimhen will cost around £80million but Napoli may well be tempted to ask for even more this summer.
Osimhen allegedly wants to join a Champions League club and has ruled out a move to Newcastle for that very reason.
Liverpool can offer Champions League football but do they really need to add Osimhen right now?
Liverpool are already finding it hard enough to juggle their five sensational attackers.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz are all fighting for action. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino – two established internationals – can’t even get a kick.
Unless somebody is leaving Liverpool, it just doesn’t make sense to go and splash a huge fee on Osimhen.
That’s not to say that Osimhen isn’t a quality striker and would be a success at Liverpool.
The Nigerian international has been in blistering form this season, bagging 13 goals in 24 Serie A games this season.

Osimhen, 23, is becoming one of the top strikers in Europe and it’s only natural that Liverpool would at least have an eye on him.
Yet instead of signing Osimhen this summer, Liverpool may instead end up facing off against him in the future.
Gazzetta Dello Sport report that Arsenal are favourites to sign Osimhen this summer as they seek a big-money striker.
Arsenal certainly have more of a need for a high-profile striker signing than Liverpool do, so that makes perfect sense.
Liverpool may have Osimhen on their list, but we simply wouldn’t expect to see him arriving at Anfield any time soon.
