Earlier today, the Premier League announced their nominees for the 2021/22 Player of the Season, where a target for Liverpool and Newcastle was included.

What’s the story?

Well, Jarrod Bowen found himself on the shortlist as a result of his impressive efforts for West Ham this season.

The 25-year-old’s nomination comes after reports claimed that Newcastle plan to fight Liverpool for his signature.

Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joao Cancelo, Kevin De Bruyne, Bukayo Saka, Heung-min Son and James Ward-Prowse have also been nominated for the award.

So far this season, Bowen has scored 16 goals in 49 appearances, while also providing 13 assists for the Hammers.

To amass 29 goal involvements alone is quite the achievement, and the West Ham No.20 still has two games to add to that tally.

Aside from Salah and Bowen, no other player in the Premier League has been able to hit double figures for both goals and assists this term.

Clearly, the £22m man – who West Ham could replace with Gerard Deulofeu – has enjoyed quite the campaign in east London.

Liverpool & Newcastle will surely struggle

In our view, Liverpool and Newcastle will find it extremely difficult to lure Bowen away from West Ham.

The Leominster-born forward still has three years remaining on his contract at the London Stadium, which runs until June 2025.

West Ham are challenging at the right end of the Premier League table, while they also made it to the Europa League semi-finals, so Bowen should have no fears about the club’s ambition or competitiveness.

Unless a truly incredible offer arrives, we can’t envisage a scenario in which David Moyes allows his talismanic forward to depart.

Having said that, if Liverpool continue to dominate Europe under Jürgen Klopp, Bowen could possibly submit a transfer request to force a move to Anfield – in our view, at least.

Nevertheless, keep an eye on the situation, as anything could happen.
