Depending on who you believe, Liverpool may well be in the market for a new midfielder in the final days of the transfer window.

The Reds’ slow start to this season has largely been blamed on their lack of depth in the middle of the park, and there have been links to the likes of Sander Berge and Konrad Laimer in recent days.

However, in our view, there’s a much more obvious midfield move that Liverpool should be making in the coming days for a player they’ve looked at before.

We’re talking about Youri Tielemans.

According to a report by The National News earlier this summer, Liverpool passed up on a move for the Belgian a few months ago, despite thinking that a move for the Leicester City ace could be done ‘relatively easily’.

Luckily for Liverpool, Tielemans is still yet to make any sort of move this summer, but a transfer away from Leicester City could certainly be on the cards.

Indeed, with Tielemans’ contract up next summer, Leicester will be tempted to cash-in on him.

Liverpool thought this deal could be done ‘easily’ earlier in the summer, and now, with desperation setting in on the player’s side, it could be an even more straightforward deal.

It’s not as though Tielemans isn’t good enough to play for Liverpool either. Described as a ‘special’ player by Wes Morgan, the playmaker has proven his abilities at this level year after year, and he’s proven that he’s more than ready for a move to a top-six club.

With less than a year left to run on this deal, Liverpool would surely be able to afford the transfer fee for Tielemans, and while he wouldn’t necessarily be a key player for the Anfield outfit, he’d provide some much-needed depth for a team that are looking to compete on four fronts this year.
