Liverpool reportedly could have missed out on the signing of Federico Chiesa to a European club according to German reports.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have started the season in imperious form with the Reds winning their opening three games in a row including a 3-0 demolition over Manchester United at Old Trafford, and it could have been four or five had they taken their chances.

Liverpool in the transfer window were not that busy only completing the signing of Italian winger Federico Chiesa, whilst Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to join next summer.

However, if things had been different then the Reds may well have not made any signings this summer.

Bayern Munich were keen on Federico Chiesa

Liverpool can thank Bayern Munich for the signing of Chiesa this summer, as the German side turned down the chance to make a move for the Italian.

That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, via FCB Inside, who reports that Bayern Munich said no to the opportunity to sign Chiesa before he ended up at Liverpool.

Chiesa expressed it was his boyhood dream to play for Liverpool but the former Fiorentina winger could have been playing for Bayern under Vincent Kompany if the German side decided to make a move.

According to Falk, the move to Liverpool only happened because Bayern decided against a move. He explained on his recent appearance on his podcast Bayern Insider that Chiesa was offered to Bayern by his agents.

They felt they were sufficiently covered in their wing positions, particularly after signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace for more than €50m.

Bayern Munich completed the signing of Olise despite Chelsea and Manchester United being keen on the Frenchman. This, of course, meant a move for Chiesa didn’t happen.

Arne Slot can get the best out of Chiesa

Since becoming Liverpool’s manager this summer, Arne Slot has certainly made an impressive start in Merseyside with the Reds yet to concede a Premier League goal.

The 3-0 victory over United was particularly impressive as players who were on the periphery under Jurgen Klopp, like Ryan Gravenberch, excelled.

Chiesa has had many problems with injuries during the last couple of seasons but if there is any manager who can bring the best out of him is Slot.
