Liverpool have launched an enquiry for Italy’s Euro 2020 star Federico Chiesa this week although Juventus are demanding a club-record fee in the region of £77 million, as reported by Calciomercato.

Talk about a man for the big occasion.

During a brilliant debut season at the Allianz Stadium, a man who arrived in Turin with a point to prove scored three times during Juve’s Champions League clash with Porto, the winner in May’s Coppa Italia final, and produced his most electrifying performance in a post-Christmas trip to the San Siro.

Point most definitely proven.

So no one should have been surprised to see Chiesa cut inside and fire a devastating finish into Spain’s net during Italy’s Euro 2020 semi-final triumph in midweek, ten days after breaking the deadlock against Austria in the round of 16.

Is Italy star Federico Chiesa finally heading to Liverpool?

On the back of some scintillating performances on the biggest stages, Chiesa’s market value has soared to vertigo-inducing heights.

Not that Juventus are looking to sell, of course.

Liverpool’s enquiry will be returned to sender, with the Italian giants considering Chiesa ‘non-transferable’.

It would take an offer in the region of £77 million to twist Juve’s arm, a fee that would see little Freddy Church replace Virgil van Dijk as the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history.

Interestingly, the report adds the 2019 Champions League winners have been watching the rapid winger since his Fiorentina days. Liverpool even agreed a deal to sign Chiesa last year, although the 23-year-old had his heart set on following in Roberto Baggio’s footsteps at Juventus.

“Chiesa has dribbling skills and quality, but also stamina, pace and power. He’s like a young Gareth Bale who drives you crazy and never gives in,” former Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognoni said a few years ago.
