Liverpool were stung in the summer after they failed to get a deal over the line for midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
During the early weeks of August, Liverpool were certainly quiet in the summer transfer window and anxiety was beginning to build amongst fans of the Reds.
However, Liverpool then made their move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi after the Spaniard had initially turned down Arsenal’s overtures earlier in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool had received encouragement that a deal for Zubimendi was possible and were prepared to trigger his release clause in his Real Sociedad deal and a deal was beginning to potentially look like it would happen.

Liverpool have Martin Zubimendi alternative in their squad after brilliant start
However, Liverpool failed to get a deal for Zubimendi over the line with the Spanish midfielder remaining at Real Sociedad and potentially signing a new deal to keep him at San Sebastian.
This was a huge blow for Liverpool and the Reds came into the season with no new midfielder to add to their squad who could help the squad adapt under a new manager.
However, since the beginning of the season, Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been superb for the Reds and has firmly established himself as the first-choice option for the Merseyside club.
Legendary Liverpool midfielder Phil Thompson hailed Gravenberch as ‘excellent’ following the victory over Manchester United with the Dutchman praised for his quick interception following Casemiro’s sloppy pass.
Gravenberch struggled to adapt in England during his debut campaign under Jurgen Klopp but has since performed extremely well under his countryman Slot.
Dutch journalist Henk Spaan believes that Slot is the key reason behind Gravenberch’s explosion in the Premier League and he may well be one of the most important players for the Reds.
Gravenberch’s new role brings the best out of Dutchman
The Dutch midfielder was filling in as a defensive midfielder for Liverpool and dovetailed superbly well with Alexis Mac Allister during the victory over United at Old Trafford.
Gravenberch’s physical stature and his quickness of thought make him an ideal midfield option for the Reds and he could be the first-choice midfielder going forward, which will leave Wataru Endo out of the team in the process.
Whilst missing out on Zubimendi was a big blow to Liverpool, they now appear to have the perfect replacement in Gravenberch who is impressing during the current campaign.
