Liverpool now face a battle to land PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo after Manchester United joined the race for his signature.
That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that United are now weighing up a summer bid for PSV star Gakpo.
United are understood to have scouted Gakpo on a number of occasions this season ahead of a potential move this summer.
Gakpo, 22, has been enjoying a stunning season, racking up seven goals and 12 assists in 18 Eredivisie appearances.
The Dutch wide man has added five goals in Europe and another in the KNVB Cup, destroying all competition in front of him.
Gakpo is primarily a left-sided winger who cuts in on his right foot, with United’s interest surely raising more questions over Marcus Rashford.
It looks like Gakpo will be on the move this summer, likely following the likes of Hirving Lozano, Donyell Malen, Steven Bergwijn and Denzel Dumfries in leaving PSV for big moves.
United are now a major threat and, in all honesty, it’s hard to see Liverpool making a move for Gakpo this summer.
Liverpool have just signed another winger in Luis Diaz, who already looks like becoming a Premier League star.

Diaz is a left-sided winger who loves to cut in on his right foot… just like Gakpo.
With Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota also able to play that exact same role, adding another in Gakpo just doesn’t seem logical.
Theo Janssen has hailed Gakpo as having ‘everything’ to his game, with Arsenal and Tottenham also linked in recent times.
It looks like United are now pushing to the front of the queue for Gakpo, with Liverpool surely backing away after Diaz’s arrival.
