There is now real confusion over the situation of Steadfast FC teenager Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Issahaku is being touted as one of the top young talents in Ghanaian football, and is expected to move to Europe this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen were favourites, but the deal fell through – and that’s where the Liverpool-based confusion has really ramped up.

Conflicting messages over Liverpool’s interest in Issahaku

Goal reported last month that Liverpool were making a last-ditch bid to sign Issahaku, and that’s why his Leverkusen move collapsed.

Borussia Dortmund were thought to be keen too, with Steadfast FC believed to be seeking around £2million for their 17-year-old attacking midfielder.

However, the Liverpool Echo stated that Liverpool weren’t in fact chasing Issahaku at all, and wouldn’t be pursuing a deal.

So now what?

This is where things get really confusing.

Steadfast president and owner Haruna Iddrisu was quoted by Football Ghana this weekend as saying that Issahaku was joining Liverpool for £1.5million.

The report noted that Issahaku was signing a five-year deal with Liverpool but heading straight out on loan to Sporting until he’s able to play in England.

Well, that’s not what the press in Portugal say. Record report that Issahaku is joining Sporting permanently and not on loan from Liverpool at all.

They suggest that Issahaku will join Sporting’s B team, with Liverpool not involved in the deal.

This story seems truly bizarre, and only time will tell whether he becomes a Liverpool player in the future, with the Reds potentially being dragged into this saga for name value.
