Any lingering hopes of Liverpool managing to sign Karim Adeyemi seem to be over with the Red Bull Salzburg ace set to join Borussia Dortmund.

Adeyemi has long been expected to join Dortmund this summer and copy Erling Haaland in arriving from Red Bull Salzburg.

Dortmund have struggled to get a deal tied up though and there have been fears that Adeyemi would end up heading elsewhere.

Sky Sports Austria reported in April that Liverpool were in talks to hijack Dortmund’s deal for Adeyemi and bring him to Anfield.

That seemed a little hard to imagine given that Liverpool just added Luis Diaz to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

Is another attacker really Liverpool’s main focus? DIvock Origi may well be leaving this summer but another striker just doesn’t seem likely.

Liverpool do like players with ties to the Red Bull project though and you can see why they would like Adeyemi.

The 20-year-old has smashed 23 goals in 42 games this season whilst also adding eight assists.

Adeyemi is considered to be one of the top young strikers in Europe and is being backed for a huge future.

Hailed as a ‘perfect’ attacker by Salzburg boss Matthias Jaissle, Adeyemi has the world at his feet having only turned 20 in January of this year.

That’s the kind of profile Liverpool love to target but it seems that Jurgen Klopp’s former club Dortmund are finally ready to strike.

Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to claim that Dortmund are preparing paperwork and contracts to sign Adeyemi.

It’s suggested that a verbal agreement is now in place and Dortmund will secure Adeyemi for around €38million (£32.5million).

Liverpool have missed out for now, but don’t be surprised to see them target Adeyemi again in the future.
