Liverpool are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi as they look to swoop in and beat Borussia Dortmund to a deal.

That’s according to Sky Sports Austria, who claim that Dortmund have reached a breakthrough in talks with Salzburg.

The negotiations have been going on for weeks between Dortmund and Salzburg, with a rough agreement allegedly in place.

A deal worth around €35million (£29million) is in the pipeline but a final agreement with Adeyemi is not in place.

That means Dortmund could actually miss out because Adeyemi is in talks with three other clubs about a summer move.

Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig – the sister club of Salzburg – are all thought to be in talks to sign Adeyemi this summer.

We maybe shouldn’t be shocked by Liverpool’s interest in Adeyemi, but this seems to have come out of nowhere.

Sure, Liverpool have been linked with Adeyemi but actually holding talks is a very new development.

Liverpool love signing a player with Red Bull ties; Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Ibrahima Konate have all played for Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig or both.

Adeyemi has enormous potential and fits the mould Liverpool want; young and ascending with his best years ahead of him.

The 20-year-old has smashed 20 goals and five assists in 38 games this season with the German continuing to shine over in Austria.

A big move is coming this summer but would joining Liverpool really make sense?

Liverpool already have five top attackers; Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane.

They’re so good that Divock Origi and former Salzburg ace Takumi Minamino can’t get a look-in at the moment.

Adeyemi is very talented but he would likely be struggling for first-team action if he joined Liverpool this summer.

First-team football will be more realistic with Dortmund or Leipzig, and we can’t really see a Liverpool deal happening.
