Liverpool have expressed a keen interest in signing RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol but Chelsea allegedly lead the race.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Premier League clubs are flocking to try and sign Gvardiol.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all understood to have ‘expressed an interest’ in signing Gvardiol.

However, it’s Chelsea who are allegedly leading the race with their negotiations ‘more advanced’ as things stand.

The dream for Chelsea is to sign both Christopher Nkunku and Gvardiol from Leipzig in 2023, with Nkunku already heading to West London.

Todd Boehly wants to land Gvardiol in January but is willing to shelve the deal until the summer if that gets his man.

Gvardiol won’t come cheap but with Chelsea desperate to sign a top left-sided centre back, they’re going all-in for Gvardiol and will hope to beat Liverpool.

Liverpool could land another Red Bull star in Gvardiol

Gvardiol was unbelievable at the World Cup in Qatar, proving why he is one of the top young centre backs in football.

Strong, fast, comfortable on the ball and already possessing a great reading of the game, Gvardiol appears to have absolutely everything.

The 20-year-old was hailed as ‘brilliant’ by BBC pundit Pat Nevin and it’s a verdict shared across the world – even after Lionel Messi had his way with him.

Liverpool haven’t really focused on the left-sided defender market due to Virgil van Dijk’s brilliance there even as a right-footer.

It’s hard to ignore Gvardiol’s talent and potential though and Liverpool may hope their history of signing Red Bull players can help them here.

Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Ibrahima Konate have all been Red Bull players in the past, either with Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig or even both.

Gvardiol could be the latest in that line of talent but Liverpool will seemingly find it difficult to beat Chelsea to his signature.
