Liverpool haven’t really replaced Luis Suarez since he left for Barcelona in 2014.

Well, the Reds certainly found a superior goalscorer in the form of Mohamed Salah and in that sense, yes they replaced the Uruguayan.

But just as Suarez was loved by Liverpool supporters during his time at Anfield, he was equally despised by neutral fans.

And in that sense, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t really have any antagonistic pantomime villains.

Or so he thought.

Heir apparent

When Diogo Jota scored the winning penalty for Liverpool against Leicester City on Wednesday night, he celebrated right in front of the travelling fans.

And as this article proves, it went down very well with the Anfield faithful.

It was the sort of petulant triumphalism that made the Uruguay international such a legendary figure on Merseyside during his time there.

And the fact that Jota seems to have no problem winding up opposition fans, even at such a raw time like seconds after losing a penalty shootout, indicates that the former Wolves attacker might just be Liverpool’s new Luis Suarez.

Listen, not any annoying pest of a player can be Suarez.

But Jota – who has 12 goals in 17 starts for under Jurgen Klopp this season – is also a massive player for the Reds, just like Suarez.

And when you combine his goalscoring talent and penchant for skulduggery, he might just fill the South American’s boots at Anfield overall.
