Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are singing the praises of Diogo Jota after beating Leicester City on Wednesday.
The Portugal international scored the penalty which sent the Reds through to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
But that isn’t strictly why Liverpool supporters are lavishing praise on the former Wolverhampton Wanderers hitman.
In celebrating his winning penalty, Jota celebrated right in front of the travelling Leicester fans at Anfield last night, adding insult to injury after Jurgen Klopp’s outfit had come from 3-1 down to draw 3-3.
It was quite a hot-tempered match for Liverpool, who had to put up with triumphant chanting from the away end, prompting Jota’s actions.
Here’s how Liverpool supporters reacted to footage of him goading the City faithful.
Fan favourite
The former Wolves player, a £45 million addition in 2020, is rapidly becoming a major fan favourite on Merseyside.
Remember, he also scored in regular time for what was his 12th goal in 17 starts across all competitions this season.
And his post-match celebrations might seem petulant to the netural, but when he’s your player then it’s the sort of thing that your own fanbase absolutely loves to see, as the Liverpool supporters have proven in this article.
Massive
With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set for an extended absence due to the Africa Cup of Nations, Jota could be a massive player for the Reds over the next couple months.
Well, he already is vital, as his goals have proven, but he could get far more important.
