Manchester United are making a shock move for Lee Grant.

Liverpool fans have regularly expressed frustration at the club’s failure to sign a new goalkeeper to replace Loris Karius so far this summer.

So much so that there was even jealousy when West Ham signed Lukasz Fabianski.

One move from a rival is not causing envy, just mockery.

That is Manchester United’s surprise move for Stoke City veteran Lee Grant.

The 35-year-old journeyman is closing in on a once in lifetime move, with The Telegraph reporting Jose Mourinho wants to bring him to Old Trafford.

It seems a peculiar move, but it has some logic, with United wishing to send their talented young back-up goalkeepers out on loan.

Grant would just be third choice and may not ever even play a first team game.

Even so, the move has caused some amusement from rival fans, on the same day it emerged United were set to re-sign much maligned midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

Liverpool fans have not been shy in their derision of their rivals, and are on a high after Jurgen Klopp’s side finally unveiled big money signing Naby Keita.
