Liverpool could reportedly re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this month. Reports from Brazil suggest that the Reds are one of three Premier League clubs keen – and Reds fans have reacted to the news on Twitter.
Coutinho, 29, has endured a nightmare spell at Barcelona since his enormous £142million move to the Nou Camp. Clocking up just 106 games in four years, Coutinho has entered the last 18 months of his contract.
Goal Brasil report that Barcelona are willing to offload Coutinho, in order to balance the budget. Xavi’s side are looking to get rid of some of their biggest earners, who are underperforming. Samuel Umtiti, is another example.
Indeed, the report states that Liverpool want to bring Coutinho back to Anfield. However, the Reds face competition from two Liverpool icons – in Everton boss Rafa Benitez and new Aston Villa gaffer Steven Gerrard.
What are Liverpool fans saying about the Coutinho report?
Taking the emotion and romance out of a potential return for Coutinho, Liverpool have numerous players in his position. If they play a 4-2-3-1, no.10’s include Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones, and more.
In terms of attacking midfielders, Harvey Elliott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all options. But whether Liverpool need Coutinho or not, surely they have to consider a move to bring him back to Anfield.
When he was at Liverpool, Coutinho was adored. While he might not reach those heights again – surely he has a chance of doing so at the club where he did it before? Liverpool fans would love to see him back on Merseyside.
