Newcastle United are on the brink of signing Remi Savage from Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, the 19-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal with Newcastle.
The report adds that the defender – who’s been on Liverpool’s books since the age of nine – has snubbed a new contract on Merseyside in favour of joining the Magpies.
Liverpool fans on Twitter were hesitant after hearing about the speculation originally.
But Newcastle don’t exactly have a stellar record when it comes to developing young talent signed for the Under-23 side, whom Savage will play for initially.
And here’s how some fans of the North-East club reacted to the report on social media:
Logical
Leaving Liverpool makes total sense and it provides an insight into Savage’s ambition.
Quitting a club like this when they want to keep you is pretty bold but, by the same token, Jurgen Klopp has a rake of central defenders and the odds of playing senior football at any point over the next two or three years is very low – or high, depending on how you look at it.
He won’t play senior ball under Steve Bruce at Newcastle originally either but, with United being a much lesser team, his chances are much better.
