In doing so, the Reds are now fully-stocked with regards to centre-back options, when you consider the fact that Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez will be fit for next season.

And with Nathaniel Phillips, Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio there too, it’s almost impossible for an academy centre-back to see a passage into the senior side anytime soon.

With that in mind, it can be no surprise that Remi Savage has reportedly decided to leave Liverpool.

According to The Athletic, the 19-year-old powerhouse is set to sign a three-year deal at Newcastle United, after snubbing a contract to remain on Merseyside.

Yes, his first-team prospects look extremely grim, but we’re still talking about one of Europe’s biggest football clubs and leaving when they want to keep you takes a lot of guts.

But it illustrates just how much ambition and hunger the Liverpool youngster – who joined the club aged nine – has and the fans will hope it works out for him in the North East.
